Revelation 1:10 KJV says “I am the Alpha and the Omega.” This phrase is missing in the NIV, NLT, as well as the RSV. Why is this? What follows is a discussion of Gnosticism and the Codex Alexandria which was used as a basis for many Bible translations. The problem with the Codex Alexandria is that it was heavily influenced by the Gnostics. Who are the Gnostics and what did they believe? Why would they not want Jesus to be known as God? Continuing to verse 13, Dr. Bramson discusses what the robe indicates about Jesus. Looking at the Greek word and its other use in Matthew 22 gives us hints at what is actually taking place in Revelation 1.
You may find Dr. Bramson’s book, Revelation Decoded: The Easiest Book in the Bible, to be a valuable tool as you listen to the Revelation series. Revelation Decoded is available here.
